Lori Harvey may be mostly known as the daughter of Steve and Marjorie Harvey and the socialite who dates A-list celebrities, but she is also a young and very successful model and entrepreneur. In 2021, when she launched her beauty and skincare brand, SKN By LH, she quickly sold out all her inventory within just 48 hours.
“There aren't a lot of big skin-care brands that are headed up or have been founded by Black people or, specifically, Black women, so I wanted to add to that list,” she explained to Popsugar. “When the next generation is coming up and there's that little brown girl who wants to get into skincare or start her own company, she can see me and be like, 'I can do it, too.'”One advantage that she has is her strong social media influence, almost 5 million followers on Instagram, which allows her to successfully model her own products. In addition, she has several lucrative modeling contracts in both the U.S. and in Europe and has starred in campaigns for Burberry and Michael Kors. She has even walked the runway for Dolce & Gabbana.
Her plan for the next five years is to launch a series of successful businesses. “Hopefully, SKN by LH is a household name and people are loving it, and I'm a real force in the business space, the beauty space, the fashion space,” she comments.
She says that the key to successfully managing her global team of employees is good communication. She explains, “Always communicate. Overcommunicate, even, so you are always on the same page.”
She also adds that it is essential to learn from your mistakes and apply what you learned in the future so that you don't make the same mistakes over and over.
