When comedian Chris Rock told Jada Pinkett-Smith during the 2022 Oscars that he can't wait to see her in the sequel of G.I. Jane, he may have been on to something. Jada is a great actress, she has excellent brand recognition, and even more, she looks absolutely beautiful with no hair. She could easily play the role and could easily give the part an Oscar-worthy performance!
The original G.I. Jane movie starring Demi Moore was released in 1997 and opened in the U.S. at number one, grossing $11 million in its opening weekend. It went on to gross more than $48.2 million at the box office domestically, and millions more at the box office overseas and in DVD sales.Since then, however, a lot has changed when it comes to diversity on the big screen. At the time, it was extremely rare to see a Black actor, let alone a Black actress, as the main character for such a film. But now is the perfect time for a Black female protagonist to take center stage, and Jada Pinkett-Smith is the perfect candidate.
Jada is fierce, she is convincing, and even more, she is well-loved and respected by her millions of fans all around the world.
Chris Rock may have meant it as a joke, and Will Smith may have taken it as an insult, but really, it would be amazing to see Jada in such a powerful role.
